All Hail the freshmen

All Hail the freshmen

Cam Newton, One of the best rookie quarterbacks the NFL has ever seen. Yes I just said that, with multiple 400 yard games Newton is tearing up the NFL right know. I wish I could say the same for his team who can barely seem to win a game right know. Newton right know is in the same rookie category as Troy Aikman, Drew Bledsoe, John Elway, Marc Bulger, Ben Roethlisbergur, Matt Ryan and Phil Simms. Most of those Quarterbacks have gone on to great success in the NFL so the panthers can breathe a breath of fresh air because they have a great qb for the future. Most rookies sit on the bench their first year or have little impact on the NFL, but this year’s class of rookies has put the notion to same. With such rookies as Andy Dalton (Bengals), Chris Ponder (Vikings), DeMarco Murray (Cowboys) who even ran for 253 yards in one game and punt returner Patrick Peterson (Cardinals). These rookies are impacting there teams like few rookies have. Andy Dalton has leaded the Bengals to a surprising winning record with out there long time qb Carson palmer.

With all of these rookies playing well right now it is hard to imagine what they will me like in a few years with more experiences. Hopefully these rookies keep playing hard and lead there teams to great success in the NFL over many years.

Screening Report; True Grit

Screening Report; True Grit

One of the most important scenes in True Grit happens toward the end of the movie Mattie seizes LaBoeuf's rifle and shoots Chaney in the chest, knocking him over the edge of the cliff, killing him. The recoil knocks her into a pit, where she disturbs a ball of rattlesnakes. Cogburn arrives, but not before Mattie’s is bitten by a rattle snake in the arm. Cogburn rides day and night to get Mattie to a doctor, carrying her on foot after euthanizing Mattie's exhausted horse. The movie ends with Mattie, twenty five years later with her standing over Cogburn's grave and reflecting on her decision to move his remains, how she has never married, and how time catches up with everyone.

Throughout the movie Cogburn is portrayed as a hard, stern and rouged man, but during this scene he did something that maybe even he was surprised that he did it. The scene is one of the most important ones because Cogburn, a tough man who cared little about any one risk his own life to save Mattie’s life. Even after Mattie’s horse is exhausted and he has to euthanize it he begins to carry her. Mattie eventually grew on him and he cared about her even though he may have not showed it until the very end.

Looking at Movies: Film analysis

Looking at Movies: Film analysis

When analyzing a film there are two important things that you should look at. One would be content, or subject matter. The other important thing to look at is form, or how the subject matter is expressed. Formal analysis is a specific type of visual description which meant to evoke the work in the reader’s mind. Instead it is an explanation of visual structure, of the ways in which certain visual elements have been arranged.  Some example in a movie would be symbolic value, slow motion, motif, establishing shot, long shot, point of view and metaphor. These entire things will determine the mood and state of mind of the film. For example doing a formal analysis for the movie Juno, the audience expects her to abort the baby. The scene leads up to an abortion clinic and outside an anti-abortionist try to change Juno’s mind. Outside the clinic is a terrible parking lot, cheesy stone facade, and bad interior reflecting on how bad the clinic and process is. This mood is set up as Juno changes her mind about the abortion. Look, point of view and reaction is also important in the situation when she decide to change her mind. Analyzing films helps determine what the message of the movie is for, who it’s for, why it was directed, the mindset of the director and what thoughts were put into this film. Film analyzing will help you better understand the film mindset and perhaps identify the main ideas or the point that is trying to make. Better understanding and concept of a film can help a viewer enjoy the movie greater than they would of before.
